A Guide to Walking Down the Aisle in 10 Steps

  1. Members of the bridal party:  Be ready to walk as close to the scheduled time of the ceremony as possible. Your harpist will be eyeing the entrance for the first member of your party to begin the processionals.
  2. Allow your harpist time to finish the final song of the prelude. She will do so as quickly as possible, and turn the page to the first processional, adjust the pedals and begin playing.
  3. Bridesmaids: Listen to the first few beats or seconds of the piece you are going to walk down the aisle to, and then begin your walk.
  4. Remember to smile! Walk slowly; you have plenty of time. 
  5. Once you reach your placement at the front of the alter, the harpist will end the piece as quickly as possible in a musical way.
  6. The harpist will take a moment to turn the page, adjust her pedals and will then begin the next processional. 
  7. Bride: Listen to the first few beats of your processional, your guests will stand. Then begin walking. 
  8. Take a deep breath, relax your shoulders, walk slowly, and smile!
  9. When you arrive at the alter, the harpist will end the piece at the nearest place that makes musical sense. 
  10. Once the officiant announces the new “Mr. & Mrs.,” SMILE! Your friends and family will congratulate you with a warm applause. The harpist will begin the recessional. Stand for a moment in acknowledgement before you begin walking out.
